This video is from this past TED conference and it is a very interesting look into how internet videos go viral. Kevin Allocca, YouTube’s Trends Manager, discusses how only a small percentage of videos go from obscurity to notoriety. One statistic Allocca mentioned that surprised me the most was that every minute, an average of 48 hours of footage is uploaded to YouTube. I imagine that very little of that footage is actually worth watching though.
Many bands are exploring the iPhone as a new platform to create music. Bands like Innerpartysystem are even using the device for live performances in small venues. In the case of New York’s Atomic Tom, the iPhones came in handy when the band decided to light up a subway. Watch and see Atomic Tom perform an impromptu rendition of their single “Take Me Out” on the New York City B Train using only the phones in their pockets.
